Holwell Gorge is only about 15mins from my home and yet, for reasons unknown, I haven’t been for a wander there in about 20 years… I decided to head down this evening to test my new lens – a Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f0.95 for Micro Four Thirds. The eastern start of the track is about 10 minutes out of Beaconsfield along the Holwell Road. It’s signposted but there’s no warnings, so go slow and keep an eye out.
It’s then about an hour and a half to walk the full length of the gorge. But to be honest I got distracted by a fantastic waterfall about 10 mins into the walk, so I didn’t end going all the way. Apparently the full walk is a bit strenuous in places, so probably best if you have a bit of fitness…
All in all an absolutely gorgeous place – lots of sassafrass, ancient mytle beech and massive tree-ferns. There’s also a cool looking little swimming hole below the falls that looks like it’s be fun in summer.
